3 Simple Steps to Cut the Cord

cut the cord step one

1. Ditch cable. It’s not as scary as it sounds!

Your current provider probably already has an internet-only plan, give them a buzz and pick a plan, we recommend 50+ MBPS or greater.

Deciding between renting or buying equipment?
If your internet provider charges a monthly fee for modem and router rental, it may be cheaper to buy your own. Modems and routers are offered at a variety of price points, so you can easily pick one that matches your internet speeds.

2. Try different streaming service(s).

To find the perfect streaming service (or two or three or four) you first have to figure out what is most important to you. What channels are MUST haves? Are you a reality buff or a sports fanatic? A true crime addict or a news enthusiast? What features do you love? Unlimited DVR? Live TV? Device flexibility? What is your ideal TV budget? Keep in mind that folks usually have more than one streaming service. Sites likethestreamable.com and flixed.io have done some of the comparing and contrasting for you.

Most streaming services offer a free trial. Check out Philo’s 7-day free trial with just a phone number (you read that right, no CC needed to start!).

Do you love your local channels?

3. Pick your favorite way to watch.

Pick a box. See if your TV already has the ability to run some streaming services (e.g. a Roku TV). If you need one. the box that connects to your TV comes in lots of price ranges, from almost free to $$$. The important thing is to pick the service, then the box (as not all services are available on all boxes). Here’s a few we like:

  • Roku
  • Android TV
  • Apple TV
  • Fire TV

Philo is available on your phone, tablet, computer, or TV with supported devices like Amazon Firestick, Roku, Apple TV, or Android TV.
